Workshops

Monthly workshops are meant to supplement high school students’ experiences during the college application process, in addition to the one-on-one mentor meetings, blog, and podcast. High school students from across the U.S. gather monthly via Zoom to learn and grow together as a community. Missed a workshop? You can view our summary points down below!

  • By the end of this workshop, students will learn how to navigate the platform and use different features before their Early Decision deadlines that occur in the beginning of November and before their Regular Decision deadlines that occur in the beginning of January. Students will also learn how to navigate financial aid, specifically FAFSA and the CSS profile.

  • By the end of this workshop, students will learn how to craft an essay that tailors to their voice. Breakout rooms will have mentors reading different essays so that students can have a better understanding of essay structure, syntax, and grammar.

    Target audience: Juniors and seniors school in high school

  • By the end of this workshop, students will learn how to maximize their winter break by preparing for interviews, internships, volunteer projects and/or other extracurriculars while still staying on track with their college and career journey. We will share tips, tricks, and strategies to make winter break as productive and fun as possible.

  • By the end of this workshop, students will learn how to make the most oof their senior year, a time when high school students tend to feel burnt out and less eager to get work done (commonly known as “senioritis”).

  • By the end of this workshop, students will learn how to choose or narrow down their college list based on different components such as location, financial aid, academic programming, etc.

  • By the end of this workshop, students will share each other’s successes and setbacks in a safe, judgment free zone. They will share their outlook on the school year and goals for final exams as well as their summer plans. We hope that after attending a year-long workshop series, students are comfortable with each other and the CCRI team. Students will also be encouraged to provide feedback on CCRI in order to improve curriculum and programming for future years.

  • By the end of this workshop, students who were sent an email about their eligibility for the end of year tech raffle will find out who the lucky winner is. In our first raffle, the student won a new Macbook Air Laptop. This past year a high school mentee received an iPad Pro, apple pencil, and keyboard.
